Abstract

The University of Duisburg-Essen developed in Work Package 4 (WP4) of the Café project a method for deriving system and integration test cases for software product family testing, which is called ScenTED (Scenario based TEst Case Derivation). This deliverable is the third deliverable of the University of Duisburg-Essen within this work package.

The main focus of this deliverable is a significant extension of ScenTED to reach two goals. First, we aim at supplementing the missing parts of the ScenTED method in application engineering and integration testing to make ScenTED a complete method for product family testing. Second, we aim at improving the applicability of the method in industrial environments. ScenTED has been validated in a close cooperation with Siemens Medical Solutions HS IM. This fruitful cooperation has highlighted some potential for improvement, which has lead to further extensions of ScenTED described in this deliverable. For example, tool support is of paramount importance for the acceptance of ScenTED in practice, and test planning issues were added.

This deliverable provides a consolidated and integrated perspective on the ScenTED method described in the first two deliverables. It covers the following main extensions to ScenTED:

  • a detailed treatment of test case derivation in application engineering;
  • detailed guidance for dealing with use case relationships and their consideration in test case derivation;
  • support for early integration testing in domain engineering by focusing on so-called common components, which are part of every application;
  • two prototypes, which automate particular activities in ScenTED
  • support of test planning
  • an evaluation of the ScenTED method at Siemens AG Medical Solutions HS IM;

Parts of ScenTED have been validated in this cooperation (see also Deliverable 5.4.2 for details [GoWe04]). That is, ScenTeD as it is described here can be viewed as industrially validated method.
