What you can expect
We supervise your PhD intensely. The specific focus of your PhD topic in the area of adaptive software systems will be determined according to your personal interests and knowledge. Adaptive software systems are able to adapt their behavior to changes in the operating environment. Such changes often cannot be fully anticipated during development. Nevertheless, adaptation capabilities need to be systematically designed into the system, just like other system functions and qualities. This poses new challenges for software engineering methodologies.
Your research activities generally are part of our research projects. You will approach the state of the art in research areas related to your topic through your own literature analyses and visiting internationally renowned scientific conferences. We supervise your PhD intensely. Information on our PhD process can be found online.
Responsibility and Education
Besides your PhD undertaking, you will also support our working group in both research and teaching. To support your research and teaching activities, you will guide students and research assistants.
The Software Systems Engineering research group is part of the research institute paluno (The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology), in which ten professors and their teams, a total of more than 100 academic staff members, join forces. You will cooperate closely with our partners from industry and academia in the context of our European and national research projects.
You are creative, you enjoy working in a team, and you have remarkable analytical skills. You are highly interested in delving into complex, interdisciplinary research questions, and developing innovative results. You have recently completed your studies in Computer Science, Software/Systems Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Business Information Systems, or a related area with excellent or good results.
