Welcome to the Ruhr Institute for Software Technology

The software systems of the future will be characterized by widely distributed, mobile, even ubiquitous use; by the seamless interaction between physical and digital services, data and things; and by continuous adaptation to a rapidly

evolving technology and business context. IT systems that are up to these challenges enable digital enterprises to not just cope with frictional changes in their markets, but to take advantage of new business opportunities as they emerge. In research and industry projects with partners across Europe, paluno develops scientific, yet pragmatic approaches to engineer such complex software systems – for the infrastructures of the future as well as the application landscapes of today.

paluno’s research and transfer paradigm encourages mutal benefit from basic research, applied research and bilateral industry cooperations. Our research teams join competencies covering all phases and layers of software engineering, and bring in experience from application domains as diverse as insurance, automotive, health, energy, and logistics.

The conference takes place in Berlin, 2–5 December 2013. Gerd Gröner is furthermore organisation committee member of the 9th International Workshop on Semantic Web Enabled Software Engineering (SWESE2013), held in conjunction with the conference.

Klaus Pohl and Thorsten Weyer are member of the editorial board of the “IREB Requirements Engineering Magazine“. The aim of the magazine is to distribute regularly high level “Requirements Engineering” articles (i.e. reports, comparative studies, introduction of new techniques) for a broad readership. The first issue of the magazine will appear in January 2014.

Thorsten Weyer is Member of the Program Committee of the 20th International Working Conference on Requirements Engineering: Foundation for Software Quality (REFSQ 2014) which will be held from 7th – 10th of April 2014 in the Atlantic Congress Hotel Essen. Klaus Pohl is Steering Committee Member of the REFSQ.

The members of the European Project FI-WARE, including the University of Duisburg-Essen, had a strong participation at the Campus Party in London from 3-6 September, 2013.
During the Campus Party, FI-WARE members gave several presentations and organized workshops that attacked many of the participants of the Campus Party.
At the beginning of event, Neelie Kroes, Vice-President of the European Commission responsible for the Digital Agenda, launched FI-LAB, a platform for Future Internet experimentation. FI-LAB is available to developers for free experimentation with the technology.

paluno takes part at S.U.N.I. – the  summer university of the natural and engineering sciences of the University Duisburg-Essen.

Klaus Pohl is one of the keynote speakers at SOFTEC Asia 2013. The conference takes place in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia from 2-5 September 2013. It is organized as a regional event. A number of delegates are expected to come from Asian countries. SOFTEC Asia 2013 will retain its traits of having tutorial, workshops and keynote sessions delivered by mostly international speakers. The topic of the keynote is “Modelling variability information in requirements and test artefact”.

Thorsten Weyer has been appointed by the National Agency for Science Evaluation (ANEP) in the committee of experts for evaluating research projects, research proposals and scholarships. ANEP is the spanish national authority for research funding, similar to Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) in Germany.
