paluno - The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology

In increasingly more enterprises business processes depend on IT support. The automation and mobilization of processes and applications is on the rise: often only expert's activities are left as manual tasks. Enterprises increasingly transform into digital enterprises. Here, information technology becomes one of the key drivers of innovation. In this context, IT-engineering aims at the focused support of functional departments. Information technology needs to dynamically support changing business models and value chains and must open an evolutionary path from legacy application landscapes to modern structures.

With eight professors an 100 research associates paluno offers digital enterprises extensive theoretical support in the areas Requirements Engineering, Specifications, Software Architecture, and the mobilization of existing application landscapes. paluno emphasizes the importance of methodical discussions in the world of enterprises. Only this way enterprises succeed at transferring knowledge from research into practice.

Workshops, reviews, coaching of our industry partners, and the support of continuous learning within our CampusLab as well as the creation of studies and software prototypes are proven concepts of cooperation.

With the CampusLab paluno has developed an extra occupational training program for employees in practical IT-topics. The CampusLab is an integrated, balanced training program to provide a systematic transfer of knowledge and continuous support for innovation.
The objective of the CampusLab is to transfer established academic courses into a professional training program. With the combination of lectures and practical exercises the CampusLab is specifically focused no the roles and phases of software processes.

The Interaction Room (IR) is a method to support complex communication situations in interdisciplinary teams. The purpose of an Interaction Room is to create a common understanding among all participants by the use of a pragmatic modeling approach. An intuitive visualization technique helps to identify efforts, values, risks and uncertainties and thereby sets the focus on the important aspects of the project. An immediate consequence is a shift of attention from trivial, but better understood aspects to the essential challenges of the project together with the creation of a common understanding of the problem, even beyond one’s own field of work.
