From 1-4 October, a "Teach the Teacher" workshop and a "Geek for Social Good" hackathon took place at the German University in Cairo (GUC). The events are part of the "ComIC - Computing for Intercultural Competence" project, which is led by the Human-Computer Interaction group.

At the "Teach the Teacher" workshop, speakers from Egypt, Spain and Germany taught about 60 GUC teaching assistants. They gained useful knowledge, e.g. about learning methods, e-learning, or the recognition of special skills of their students. Michail Lewintan from the "Specification of Software Systems" group presented the exercise and examination system JACK.

The hackathon "Geek for Social Good" was a continuation of the hackathon, which took place in July at the University of Duisburg-Essen. This time, 30 students from Cairo and 10 Germans worked together on virtual reality and augmented reality solutions to make people more aware of social problems.

ComIC is a project of "University Dialogue with the Islamic World", which is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) by funds from the Federal Foreign Office.
