Workshop Series: Blockchain Technology for Insurers

Short-term and individually adapted insurances – up to now, such an offer did not pay off for insurers. The use of blockchain technologies can change this. The IGUA project offers workshops for insurers to get to know the possibilities of blockchains.

Blockchain is a very popular topic. However, it is not possible to speak of the blockchain. Blockchain technologies can be developed for different contexts and with different characteristics. In order to find out which technology makes the most sense for each specific company, the advantages and disadvantages of the different technologies must be analyzed systematically. To achieve this, it is important to gain experience in a secure environment.

Testing the use of blockchains yourself

Some initial initiatives in larger insurance companies are already testing blockchain technologies. The paluno Research Group for Software Engineering of Prof. Dr. Volker Gruhn and the research institute for insurance informatics at the University of Leipzig offer expert support for small and medium-sized insurance companies that helps these companies to test essential components of blockchain technology.

The IGUA (Insurance Generated by User Assembly) project focuses on developing an executable prototype for a holiday weather insurance based on blockchain technologies. In practical workshops, insurers can gather their own experience and get to know the possibilities offered by blockchain technology better.
