Your Main Responsibilities

The “Software Engineering” department of the Faculty of Computer Science, with nine professorships, is dedicated to exploring and advancing the field of software engineering in its full breadth and depth.

The new professorship is intended to actively help shape the scientific profile of the area. Teaching duties will include foundational and advanced courses in the Faculty’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs. The future holder of the position should appropriately complement the competencies available in the Faculty and, within paluno – The Ruhr Institute for Software Technology, engage in the joint initiation and execution of collaborative projects.

We are seeking a person with internationally recognized scientific reputation and research activity in the field of software engineering. This includes in particular — but not exclusively — the following research areas with a clear relation to the development and operation of software-intensive systems: AI for Software Engineering, Software Engineering for AI, Software Analytics, Software Architecture and Design, Software Dependability, Security and Safety, Software Evolution, Human and Social Aspects, Software Testing and Analysis, Formal Aspects in Software Engineering.

Publications in high-ranking, peer-reviewed journals are expected, as well as experience appropriate to the advertised position in conducting self-acquired, competitive third-party funded projects. Experience in implementing research results in an industrial context is also desirable.

Independent teaching experience and the ability to teach in English are required. The University of Duisburg-Essen places particular emphasis on the quality of teaching. Teaching concepts — also taking into account the profile of the University of Duisburg-Essen — should be presented.
