Great Success: Lucas Davi receives ERC Starting Grant

For his research in the field of software security, Dr. Lucas Davi, assistant professor at paluno, the Ruhr Institute for Software Technology at the University of Duisburg-Essen, has been awarded one of the most endowed prizes for young scientists: an ERC Starting Grant. This provides the computer scientist with 1.5 million euros to develop a solution that holistically protects smart contracts from hacker attacks.

He wants to make digital infrastructures fit for the future: Prof. Dr. Amr Rizk investigates how networks for data exchange and communication can respond quickly to sudden changing demands while remaining efficient and secure. The new professor at the software technology institute paluno at the University of Duisburg-Essen will focus on industrial automation and streaming for immersive technologies.

German IT Security Award: Great Success for paluno Researchers

Every two years, the Horst Görtz Foundation awards a total of 200,000 euros to the best future-relevant innovations in IT security. Tobias Cloosters, Michael Rodler, and Prof. Lucas Davi won the 3rd place (40,000 euros) for their innovative tool TeeRex. It facilitates the vulnerability analysis of Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs). The German IT Security Award is the most prestigious and highest endowed award of its kind in Germany.

Visualization of Intelligent Train Scheduling

Shivam Agarwal developed a visualization tool to analyze train schedules in the Flatland competition, organized as part of the NeurIPS 2020 conference, held virtually in December. The developed visualization received the first prize in the community category for tools to support the participants of the competition.

Researchers from the SSE group (Prof. Pohl), together with research partners from the University of Lille and the Politecnico di Milano, have presented an approach to make knowledge about software evolution accessible to machine learning.
