Abstract:

The lecture will address problems in IT security beyond the usual level with a technical, organizational and political perspective.

Part one will give a phenomenology of current IT security problems and their perception in Germany, the EU and the US. The actors will be differentiated between those with a background in organized crime and state actors. Questions will be raised concerning the perception of risks in our common IT environment as in compromised infrastructures as well as embedded systems.

Part two will address problems in IT security compliance. Lawful management of IT security in Germany faces a number of pitfalls that severely hinders IT professionals. Recent developments and plans of lawmakers will be questioned.

Part three will address cyber attackers and their resources, special operational tactics and thus leading to some special views on the attribution of cyber attacks.

Part four will sum up the risks and will try to give a picture of cyber security threats to be expected. The goal is to open up the horizon of professionals towards new security challenges and to give some motivation to face considerable political challenges since IT security cannot be won by technical means alone.
